Protection for shopping centres and retail: keep cars away from entrances without getting in the customers' way.

Where customers, cars and deliveries meet, the protection must stop vehicles but still let people move freely. Here are the five risk zones around a shopping centre, the products that usually solve them and what to know before you order.

SHOPPING CENTRE ENTRANCE DELIVERIES CAR PARK
Fixed or removable?

The most important choice at an entrance.

Fixed bollards

Cast into the ground or bolted down. Right where vehicles should never pass – in front of entrances and glass facades.

Removable bollards

Can be lifted out with a key. Right where deliveries, emergency services or maintenance vehicles sometimes need access.

Rules that apply in retail

The property owner has to keep customers and staff safe from traffic.

Safety rules for workplaces and public premises require you to assess where vehicles and people meet and prevent accidents. Bollards and clear separation are the most common measures. Accessibility has to be kept – leave room for prams and wheelchairs between the bollards. Read more about standards →

Common questions about retail
How far apart should bollards in front of an entrance be?

Close enough to stop a car, but wide enough for prams and wheelchairs to pass. We suggest spacing per entrance in the quote.

Do the bollards need a foundation?

Cast-in bollards need a foundation; bolt-down bollards are anchored in existing concrete. The method is stated on each product page.

Can you come and take a look?

No, we're a pure online shop. A photo and a rough sketch are almost always enough for a good proposal – and that keeps prices down.

Send a photo of the entrance. We'll suggest protection per zone.
