Traffic Posts and Delineator Posts for Visible, Vehicle-Friendly Traffic Control

A traffic post – also called a delineator post – guides traffic, marks lanes and delineates areas in a clear, highly visible way. Unlike fixed protective bollards, most traffic posts are flexible: they bend on impact and spring back upright, sparing both the vehicle and the post. That makes them ideal where vehicles pass close by – lanes, driveways and parking lots.

Types of Traffic Posts

  • Flexible traffic posts – bendable posts with reflectors that spring back after impact. Available with fixed or flexible floor mounting and in several heights (e.g. 750 and 1000 mm).
  • Traffic tubes (drive-over) – robust tubes in red/white or yellow/black for clear lane guidance.
  • Side markers and delineator posts – mark edges and obstacles with high visibility.
  • Barrier posts with chain eyelets – for linking a barrier together with chain.

Traffic Post or Bollard – Which Should I Choose?

Choose a traffic post when the goal is to guide and warn – visible, flexible and gentle on vehicles. If you instead need physical protection that actually stops a vehicle, for example at an entrance or facade, a heavy-duty bollard is the right product. Rule of thumb: traffic post = guidance, bollard = physical protection.

Applications

  • Lanes and traffic control – separate lanes and guide vehicles past work zones.
  • Parking lots and driveways – mark entrances and exits and prevent shortcuts.
  • Pedestrian and bike areas – separate them from car traffic without hard obstacles.

For road work, traffic posts are often combined with traffic cones, road signs and speed bumps for a complete solution. For post-and-chain delineation, see our stanchions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Traffic Posts and Delineator Posts

A traffic post is designed to guide and warn – it is often flexible and spares the vehicle on impact. A bollard is physical protection intended to stop or block vehicles, for example at an entrance or facade. If you need protection rather than guidance, you'll find our bollards in the impact protection category.

It's a post that bends on impact and then returns to its original upright position. This means both the vehicle and the post come through undamaged, which lowers maintenance costs in places where impacts are common.

The terms are often used interchangeably. "Delineator post" sometimes refers more specifically to marker and edge posts along a road, while "traffic post" is a broader umbrella term. Both serve the same purpose: to be seen and to guide.

Most traffic posts are screwed into asphalt or concrete using the included fasteners. Some models have a flexible mount that also protects the surface, which is practical on sensitive indoor floors.

Taller posts (around 1000 mm) are more visible and suit roads and outdoor environments, while lower models work well indoors and in parking lots. Choose the height based on how far away the post needs to be seen.
