On public roads, regulatory signs are governed by the Swedish Road Signs Ordinance (Vägmärkesförordningen), and they are installed in consultation with the road authority (the municipality or the Swedish Transport Administration). On private property – such as a parking lot, industrial yard or housing cooperative grounds – the property owner decides on signage, although standard symbols are always recommended for clarity. Also consider the reflectivity class: a higher class is visible from a greater distance and suits roads with higher speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Road Signs and Regulatory Signs
In everyday language, they mean the same thing. "Regulatory sign" (vägmärke) is the formal term in the Swedish Road Signs Ordinance for official traffic signs, while "road sign" and "traffic sign" are used more generally for all signs in a traffic environment.
On private property, such as a parking lot or industrial yard, you as the property owner decide on the signage. On public roads, however, consultation with and approval from the road authority – that is, the municipality or the Swedish Transport Administration – is required.
The reflectivity class indicates how much light the sign reflects back, for example in headlights. A higher class is visible from a greater distance and is recommended for roads with higher speeds, while a lower class may be sufficient in parking lots and at low speeds.
A side marker panel, often called X3, is a sign that marks obstacles and road work and safely guides traffic past them. It is available as single- or double-sided and can be set up with a base plate or a post.
