Description
Groove-groove L-shaped retaining wall in concrete – with rolled or smooth finish
The groove-groove L-shaped retaining wall from S:t Eriks is a precast concrete retaining wall for terraces and parks, driveways and car parks and, in the heavier load class, for roads, loading areas and storage bays. The units have a groove at both ends and are available in heights from 0.4 to 2.0 m with a rolled or smooth finish. Choose height, length, finish and load class from the variants.
Features
- Precast concrete retaining wall, factory-made
- Stable slope solution that stands just as firmly at changes in level as on flat ground
- Groove-groove joint between the units
- Two load classes: 5 kN/m² and 20 kN/m²
- Rolled or smooth finish
- Heights from 400 to 2000 mm
- Can be clad with brick or natural stone
Dimensions and design
5 kN/m² is suitable for gardens and parks with smaller changes in level, such as domestic terraces, wheelchair ramps, driveway entrances and exits, and parking spaces for occasional cars. Maximum axle load is 15 kN.
20 kN/m² is suitable for roads, loading yards and storage bays with normal or heavy vehicle traffic. Maximum axle load is 180 kN, and the wall is designed for sloping ground.
The units are available in lengths of 1000 and 2000 mm and in heights of 400–2000 mm, in 200 mm increments. The effective height, i.e. the visible wall height above ground, is 100 mm lower than the unit height.
The stem thickness is 100 mm up to a height of 1400 mm and 120 mm from a height of 1600 mm. The base width increases with height and load class, from 400 mm (400 mm, 5 kN/m²) to 1370 mm (1800–2000 mm, 20 kN/m²). The weight is 170–1945 kg per unit. Once you have made your selections, the effective height, base width, stem thickness and weight of that specific unit are shown under View all specifications. All values can also be found in the Technical data table.
Choose between a rolled and a smooth finish from the variants. S:t Eriks also manufactures groove-groove units with a form-liner finish, exposed aggregate and graphic concrete. Request a quote if you would like one of these finishes.
Material and sustainability
The L-shaped units are cast in concrete. The retaining wall can be clad with brick or natural stone. The Declaration of Performance and building product declaration can be found in the Documents and certificates tab.
Mounting
The units are placed in line, groove to groove. The L-shaped units are lifted by the spherical head anchors using lifting clutches. 2–3 lifting clutches per unit are recommended for lifting and 3 for mounting. A lifting chain for L-shaped units and lifting clutches are available as accessories. The lifting chain is intended for mounting and not for unloading from a vehicle.
For corners, decorative elements for the groove-groove series are available in angles of 90, 135, 155 and 180°. The decorative element covers the corner but is not a load-bearing corner unit. A technical guide for planning, sizing and mounting, foundation instructions and handling instructions can be found in the Documents and certificates tab.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between groove-groove and tongue-and-groove?
Groove-groove units have a groove at both ends and a stem thickness of 100–120 mm, whereas the tongue-and-groove series has a tongue and groove and an 80 mm stem. The series should not be mixed in the same wall.
Should I choose 5 or 20 kN/m²?
5 kN/m² is sufficient for gardens, terraces, ramps and parking for occasional cars (maximum axle load 15 kN). For roads, loading yards and storage bays with heavy traffic, choose 20 kN/m² (maximum axle load 180 kN).
Can the wall be clad with stone?
Yes. Groove-groove L-shaped units can be clad with brick or natural stone.
How do I deal with the corners?
Use the decorative elements for the groove-groove series. They are available for 90, 135, 155 and 180° and in heights of 600–2000 mm.
