Traffic Cones – Road Cones and Safety Cones

Traffic cones are used to quickly and clearly mark closures, guide traffic or cordon off hazard areas in workplaces and public spaces. They are easy to place and move as needed, withstand wind and weather, and help improve safety during temporary work.

Road Cones and Traffic Cones for Barriers and Road Work

A road cone – also called a traffic cone or safety cone – is the quickest way to mark an obstacle, redirect traffic or cordon off a hazard area. At Nordguard, you'll find cones for everything from simple parking lot marking to demanding road work: lightweight, stackable models, extra-robust cones and reflective versions for better visibility around the clock. Road cone, traffic cone and safety cone are different names for the same product.

Lightweight or Heavy-Duty Cones?

The choice depends on where the cone will be used and how much wind and traffic it will be exposed to:

  • Lightweight traffic cones – handy and stackable, perfect for indoor use, parking lots and temporary marking where they aren't exposed to high speeds.
  • Heavy-duty traffic cones – with a heavier base that stays put in wind and passing traffic, made for roads and outdoor environments.

Reflectivity Class, Size and Color

  • Reflectivity class 1 and 2 indicate the performance of the reflective material. Choose a higher class for roads with higher speeds, where the cone must be visible from a greater distance.
  • Height – lower cones (approx. 300–500 mm) are sufficient indoors and at low speeds, while taller cones (500–750 mm and up) are more visible and recommended for roads and high speeds.
  • Color – classic red/white and yellow/red, as well as fluorescent models that are extra visible in daylight.

Most cones are stackable, which saves space during transport and storage.

Complete Your Barrier

With barrier tape and cone bars, you link the cones into a continuous, clear barrier. For work in the dark, add warning lights that mount directly on the cone, and for road work, regulatory signs and road signs for complete marking.

Frequently Asked Questions About Road Cones and Traffic Cones

None – it's the same product. Road cone, traffic cone and safety cone are different names for the orange-and-white cone used to mark and direct traffic. Which term is used varies between industries and regions.

The reflectivity class indicates how much light the reflective material returns. Class 2 reflects more than class 1 and is visible from a greater distance, making it better suited to roads with higher speeds. For lower speeds and indoor use, class 1 or cones without reflectors are usually sufficient.

Lower cones (approximately 300–500 mm) suit parking lots, indoor use and low speeds. For roads and higher speeds, choose taller cones (500–750 mm and up) that are more visible and can be seen from farther away.

Yes, most of our road cones are stackable. That makes them easy to transport and store, and you can fit many cones in a small space in your vehicle or storage room.

Yes. With barrier tape or cone bars, you link the cones into a clear, continuous line. For darkness and poor visibility, you can also mount warning lights on the cones.
