Impact Protection for Safer Work Environments
Nordguard offers impact protection for industrial facilities, warehouses, logistics operations and commercial properties. Properly selected and mounted protection can reduce the risk of injury to people and damage to machinery and buildings. We help you choose solutions based on your operational needs, the traffic environment and the documented features of the products.
Safety and Grade Based on the Application
Different environments place different demands on impact protection. When choosing a product, you need to consider factors such as:
- Load and traffic – vehicle weight, speed and possible direction of impact.
- Placement and clearance – what needs to be protected and how much space is required if the protection deforms on impact.
- Substrate and anchoring – the condition of the floor or ground and the manufacturer’s mounting instructions.
- Visibility – colors, reflectors and supplementary marking suited to the environment.
- Material and maintenance – for example corrosion protection, temperature resistance and the need for inspection after an impact.
The function of the protection depends on both product selection and installation. Always refer to the documentation for the specific model and the conditions on site.
Part of Preventive Workplace Safety Efforts
Impact protection, physical separation and clearly marked traffic routes can be part of your accident prevention efforts. Depending on your operations, the following regulations from the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket) may be relevant:
- AFS 2023:1 – Systematic Work Environment Management: rules on investigating the work environment, assessing risks, implementing measures and following up on them.
- AFS 2023:12 – Design of Workplaces: rules on workplace design, including traffic routes and safe movement.
- AFS 2023:11 – Work Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment – Safe Use: rules covering, among other things, the safe use of forklifts and other work equipment.
The regulations set requirements for the work environment and how work is to be carried out. They do not mean that any individual impact protection product is approved or certified by the Swedish Work Environment Authority. The employer is responsible for assessing the risks and ensuring that the chosen measures provide adequate protection.
Read more in the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s current regulations.
Standards, Testing and Product Documentation
Which standards and test methods are relevant depends on the product’s design and intended use. An impact protection product, a fall protection railing and a traffic product serve different functions and may be subject to different requirements.
Information on testing, compliance with standards and any certification therefore needs to be verified for the specific product. A standard that applies to one product should not automatically be applied to the entire product range.
Before a purchase or procurement, we help you determine what documentation is available for the model in question. This may include, for example:
- Product data sheets with dimensions, material and application.
- Mounting instructions and requirements for substrate and anchoring.
- Test reports stating the test conditions, where available.
- Documentation on relevant standards and any certification.
- Instructions for inspection, maintenance and replacement after damage.
If your project requires a particular standard or documented level of protection, please state this in your quote request so that we can verify the documentation before you place your order.
Key Factors for an Effective Protection Solution
| Area | What to Consider |
|---|---|
| Protective function | Choose protection based on the risk assessment, traffic and what needs to be protected. |
| Visibility | Adapt color, reflectors and marking to the conditions on site. |
| Installation | Follow the model’s instructions for substrate, anchoring and placement. |
| Documentation | Make sure the documentation applies to the selected model and the intended application. |
| Inspection and maintenance | Inspect the protection and anchoring regularly and after any impact, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. |
