Description

Tongue and groove concrete L-wall – precast retaining wall for changes in level

The tongue and groove L-wall from S:t Eriks is a precast concrete retaining wall that takes up changes in level in parks, on house terraces and at driveways, as well as along roads and at loading areas and loading bays with heavy traffic. The units lock together with a tongue and groove at the ends, and you choose the height, length and load class from the variants. With the corner unit, which you select under Length, you can turn the wall through 90 degrees.

Features

  • Factory-made and delivered ready to install
  • Tongue and groove at the ends provide stable interlocking between units without mortar
  • Stands just as firmly on sloping sites as on level ground
  • Two load classes: 5 kN/m² and 20 kN/m²
  • Straight units and precast corner units for 90-degree turns
  • Heights from 400 to 2000 mm
  • Designed to Eurocode 2 and Eurocode 7 and manufactured to SS-EN 15258 and SS-EN 13369

Dimensions and design

5 kN/m² is suitable for gardens and parkland with smaller changes in level, such as house terraces, wheelchair ramps, driveways and parking spaces for the occasional car. The maximum axle load is 15 kN.

20 kN/m² is suitable for roads, loading areas and loading bays with normal or heavy vehicle traffic. The maximum axle load is 180 kN, and the wall is designed for a 1:2 embankment slope.

Geotechnical conditions may sometimes require a separate calculation.

Straight units are available in lengths of 1000, 2000 and 3000 mm. The 3000 mm length is available in 5 kN/m² for heights of 400 and 600 mm. The 5 kN/m² class comes in heights of 400–2000 mm and the 20 kN/m² class in heights of 600–2000 mm, in 200 mm increments. The effective height, i.e. the visible wall height above ground, is 100 mm less than the unit height, for example 900 mm for a 1000 mm high unit.

The corner units are cast in one piece with two legs of 1000 + 1000 mm. The 400 mm corner in 5 kN/m² has legs of 500 + 500 mm. Corners are available in heights of 400–2000 mm for 5 kN/m² and 600–1400 mm for 20 kN/m².

The stem thickness is 80 mm throughout the range. The base width increases with height and load class, from 300 mm (400 mm, 5 kN/m²) to 1540 mm (2000 mm, 20 kN/m²). The weight is 100–1900 kg per unit. Once you have made your selections, the effective height, base width, stem thickness and weight for that particular unit are shown under Show all specifications. All values can also be found in the Technical data table.

The units are natural grey with a rolled front face and a smooth back. Custom lengths, a sloping wall top and a mitred end are available as special designs. Request a quote if you need one.

Material and sustainability

The L-walls are cast in concrete. The declaration of performance and building product declaration are available in the Documents and certificates tab.

Mounting

The units are set in place and locked together with the tongue and groove, without mortar. Straight 5 kN/m² units and straight 20 kN/m² units have cast-in wire lifting loops. The 20 kN/m² corner units have cast-in spherical head lifting anchors. The tongue and groove units have a different stem thickness from the S:t Eriks groove and groove range and should only be combined with units from the same range.

A lifting chain for L-walls and a lifting clutch for spherical head anchors are available as accessories. The lifting chain is intended for mounting and not for unloading from the vehicle. A technical guide to planning, design and mounting, foundation instructions and handling instructions are available in the Documents and certificates tab.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose 5 or 20 kN/m²?

5 kN/m² is sufficient for gardens, terraces, ramps and parking for the occasional car (maximum axle load 15 kN). If heavy traffic or lorries will run above the wall, for example at loading areas and loading bays, choose 20 kN/m² (maximum axle load 180 kN).

How high will the visible wall be?

The effective height is 100 mm less than the unit height. A 1000 mm high L-wall therefore gives a 900 mm change in level.

How do I build a corner?

Use the precast corner unit where the wall needs to turn through 90 degrees. It is cast in one piece and provides a stable corner solution.

Can I mix tongue and groove with groove and groove?

No. The ranges have different stem thicknesses, so choose units from the same range for the entire wall.
