Concrete Barrier Blocks for Barriers and Impact Protection

A concrete barrier block – also called a concrete traffic block or traffic blocker – is a heavy, freestanding concrete block that creates an immediate physical barrier against vehicles. It's used to cordon off areas, direct traffic, prevent unauthorized parking and protect facades, loading docks and equipment. Since it's simply set in place with a crane or wheel loader, it can be moved quickly when needs change – a flexible alternative to permanently installed bollards.

Concrete barrier block and concrete traffic block are two names for the same product – which term is used varies between regions and industries.

Our Models

We stock concrete barrier blocks in several weight and size classes, with or without post holes and with different reflector options:

  • Trafistop – popular model with post hole, with a permanent (blue/yellow) or temporary (red/yellow) reflector plate. Lowest entry price and great for temporary barriers.
  • Kultingen – compact block, with or without post hole.
  • Tåget – interlocking model for longer, continuous barriers.
  • Snäckan – heavy-duty model for more permanent delineation.

All models have cast-in lifting eyes or fork pockets for safe handling with a crane or forklift. The weight determines how effectively the block stops a vehicle – models range from approx. 500 kg up to several tons.

Common Applications

  • Construction sites and road work – create safe work zones and redirect traffic.
  • Industry and warehousing – serve as impact protection in front of facades, doors and loading docks.
  • Events and plazas – quick barriers that protect crowds from vehicles and are removed afterward.
  • Parking and entrances – prevent unauthorized parking and through traffic.

For pure traffic calming, proper speed bumps are a better choice, and for lighter, quickly changing barriers, see our barricades.

Choosing the Right Model and Placing It Safely

Weight, spacing between blocks and placement determine whether the barrier actually does its job – and in public places, an approved traffic management plan (TA plan) is usually required. In our complete guide to concrete barrier blocks, we go through weight classes, placement, TA plans and maintenance step by step. Want help choosing the right model for your project? Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete Barrier Blocks

None – it's the same product. Concrete barrier block and concrete traffic block are two names for the same heavy, movable concrete block, and the term traffic blocker is sometimes used too. Which term is used depends mostly on region and industry.

The weight varies by model, from approximately 500 kg up to several tons. It's the weight that determines how effectively the block can stop a vehicle, so your choice of model depends on what you need to protect.

On private property, a permit is rarely needed. If the block will be placed in a public area or affect traffic, however, a permit and an approved traffic management plan (TA plan) from the municipality or the Swedish Transport Administration are usually required. Always check what applies to your particular location.

Due to their weight, special transport and a crane truck or wheel loader are required to lift them into place using the cast-in lifting eyes or fork pockets. Transport can make up a significant share of the total cost – get in touch and we'll calculate shipping to your address.

Yes. Several models, such as Trafistop, are available with a permanent or temporary reflector plate for better visibility. The concrete can also be painted in a contrasting color or with a company logo – prepare the surface with concrete primer so the paint lasts.
